Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Digitalisation has left its mark on literature too. Both the way in which texts are distributed and thus the reception practices have changed, as have the commentary and evaluation of literature: the spectrum has not only expanded to include phenomena such as fan fiction and self-publishing, but new platforms for communicating about literature have also developed - for example in social media, such as BookTube or Bookstagram. One driving force behind this are the so-called digital natives (Gen Y, Z and Alpha), who have a quite different approach to literature and the literary world than previous generations.
The aim of the lecture is to gain fundamental insights into the mediality of literature and reading, but also to describe and critically reflect on current developments in digital reading culture using the example of young adult literature.

The course uses teaching methods such as guest lectures - partly also in Hungarian, blended learning, flipped classroom and plenary discussions, whereby it is expected that the students acquire certain content independently (= in self-study and outside the lecture time of the course).

Assessment and permitted materials

Written exam in German or Hungarian at the end of the semester (exam duration 90 minutes), in which three open essay questions are asked. No aids are permitted in the examination. The overall grade of the examination is calculated from the partial grades of the individual questions.

UPDATE (16.10.2024):
During the semester, a work assignment can be completed on a voluntary basis, with which 2 bonus points can be gained.
2 bonus points = 1 positively assessed examination question in the written examination (i.e. instead of 3 questions, only 2 need to be answered)
Example: Result of the work task corresponds to e.g. “Good” -> 1 examination question in the final written examination is automatically assessed as “Good” and no longer needs to be answered in the examination

Work task:
Selection & reading of a Young Adult novel suitable for the VO (HU/DE)
Written summary (to be submitted by e-mail / uploaded to Moodle) & short oral presentation by 19. November
