Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The aim of the course is to familiarise students with ways of structuring sentences in order to fit them into the wider context of speech (e.g. in relation to the speaker's communication goals or the listener's level of information). In addition to the basics of information structure theory (givenness, topicalisation and focus), the course deals with linguistic means of shaping information structure in different languages (Hungarian, German, Finnish and possibly also English).
