Aims, contents and method of the course

The course gives an overview of the Hungarian history from the beginnings to the 19th century. The annals history is only a frame, the political, economic, social and cultural history is emphasized.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

To launch the most typical features of the Hungarian history is the purpose of the lecture: the characteristics of the Roman culture in Pannonia, from the nomadic way of life to the settlement of Hungarians, the beginnings of Christianity, the Church as a carrier of the medieval culture, the structure of the Hungarian society in the Middle Ages, migration movements in the Carpathian-basin, the consequences of the Ottoman rule and the Habsburg politics in Eastern Europe, the causes of the economic backwardness, start of the modernisation.

Examination topics

Analytic, critical and problem-oriented methods are used to impart knowledge.
