This is the continuation of the course 'Descriptive Grammar of Hungarian I' from last semester.
Requirements: 'Descriptive Grammar of Hungarian I' or equivalent. Background is linguistics ('Introduction to Linguistics' or equivalent knowledge) is required, knowledge of Hungarian is a plus.
Topics:
The subject matter of morphology, the notion of the word, morphological categories, inflectional and derivational morphemes.
Inflection: nomial inflection, verb inflection, inflection of the infinitive, of postpositions, and of adjectives.
Derivation: problems of classification, lexicalised derivations, derivation from noun, adjective and verb stems, order of derivational morhemes.
Compounds: notion, classification, compounds with deverbal stems.
The subject matter of syntax.
Topik-predicate division in the Hungarian sentence structure.
The structure of the predicate: minimal predicate, focussing, quantification, negation.
The noun phrase, the postpositional phrase.
Non-finite verb phrases.
The syntax of clause embedding.
