To complete the courses positively, oral reports must be held, and a written study of approximately 10 to 20 pages is required, to be submitted by the end of the semester. In addition, active participation in the discussions is included in the evaluation.

The aim of the course is to impart knowledge on the phenomenon of Galician literature, based on childhood and adolescent memories. The aim is to provide insights into the texts written in different time periods and in the different languages (German, Polish, Ukrainian) as well as competences in this area among the students. It explains the current interpretation of Galicia as a paradigm of the society of diversity and presents the theoretical foundations. Above all, there are the theories that have gained importance in the course of Cultural Turns, such as Translational Turn and Spatial Turn. Particular attention will be paid to the concepts of heterogeneity and hybridity of cultural space, the concepts of dialogicity, difference and transdifference, and the cultural-theoretical paradigm. We will discuss the approaches of literary and cultural scientific memory and memory discourse, as foundations of memory research by Aleida Assmann, autobiographical writings by Walter Benjamin, spatial location of memory by Karl Schlögel. The topic of tolerance, respect and uncertainty in a society of diversity, especially concerning children and young people in dealing with diversity will be in the foreground of the course. Selected factual and fictional texts in German are analyzed, among them the Jewish authors from Galicia, as well as the German translations from Polish and Ukrainian. Above all, these are the texts from and about Galicia, which were created from autobiographical memory. As Galicia has historically experienced several time-outs accompanied by a shift in power, causing persecution, emigration or flight from the region, the autobiographical texts reveal the causes of prejudice leading to violence. On the other hand, they reflect moments of mutual enrichment of cultures. The role of the perceptual perspective of childhood for literary creation should not be ignored: An example would be the texts by Bruno Schulz. The course aims are to discuss the timeliness of the Galician remembrance texts, which were written in different languages and in different time periods. In summary, new approaches to the discussion of tolerance in the form of similarity thinking, which is in the childhood and youth memories from Galicia, will be noted. During the seminars, the selected autobiographical and belletrist primary texts are to be read in German and analyzed with the help of the illustrated theoretical approaches.
