Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The course introduces basic tools and methods of digital text analysis. This includes, for example, corpus linguistic evaluations with AntConc and Voyant Tools, the stylometric toolbox 'stylo' and network visualization programs like Gephi. In the second part of the course, we will deal with the programming language Python and try out basic packages for language processing. Also, references to low-threshold collections of tutorials and resources will be provided. You are also welcome to make further suggestions for tools and methods to be covered.

The respective tools should be tried out as hands-on as possible and with your own or provided material.

The skills acquired are consolidated by completing homework exercises.

What will be learnt?
- Knowledge of important basic resources and tools of digital humanities
- Application of the tools and critical analysis of the results
- Basic skills for independent research of resources.

Please bring a laptop with internet access for the practical exercises. No prior programming knowledge is required.
