Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Introduction to the study of Ancient Mesopotamian poetic literature; reading of various sumerian and akkadian poetic texts; reflections on the relationship between structure and function of Ancient Mesopotamian poetic texts

Assessment and permitted materials

the text will be read in class; students are required to prepare for this; in addition, they will give a short presentation on a pertinent topic (15-20 mins)

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Minimal requirements for receving a pass grade: active participation in class (preparation of the texts to be read, participation in the discussions); oral presentation on a given topic and preparation of a seminar paper (including reaction on feedback) in accordance with the indications given by the teacher of the course and in accordance with the rules of best scientific practice. Participation is mandatory, three classes can be missed. Every single contribution is evaluated separately.
50% of the evaluation will depend on the indivual preparation of the texts (transliteration, translation, grammatical analysis); another 30% will depend on the degree and quality of the individual participation in class discussions; another 20% will depend on the quality of the short presentation.
BA: The seminar paper (and, if required, the reaction on feedback) contributes to the final grade by 50%, the oral presentation contributes 20% and regular participation in class, 30%.
