Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This course will provide an introduction to the basics of scientific work and solid skills for studying International Development:
• Search for literature and other information
• Formulating of research questions, finding a focal point, structuring one's work
• Bibliographies and citations
• Reading and understanding a scientic text
• Sorts of texts (excerpt, abstract, research draft, exposé etc.)
• scientific writing skills (free writing, revising and editing texts, rhetorical refinement)
• Überblick über Methoden und Theorien
• Präsentationstechnik

Assessment and permitted materials

Active participation in class, 5 graded papers during the semester. Students have to be present in class regularly.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Impartation of basic knowledge and skills about scientific work and schientific writing as well as the capability to apply this knowledge and these skills.
