Social and political movements and non-movements, too, religious and non-religious, are of utmost importance for the societies of the Arab world. It is necessary to understand these movements. Good knowledge of Arabic is necessary because Arabic language sources will be used.

Aims, contents and method of the course

The course tries to further a better understanding of social and political movements in the Arab world including different theoretical approaches in the field of research on social movements.

Assessment and permitted materials

Presentation, active participation, paper; it is obligatory to be present in the first session of the course

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Preparing a presentation, active classroom participation, writing a paper; willingness and competence to work with Arabic langugage sources and English language research literature. To get positive grades the ability to produce results at university level is necessary.
