Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The aim of the course is the enhancement of language skills up to a B1-level. First of all, this comprises the correct use of the Turkish grammar in everyday conversations. Moreover the course aims at increasing the students’ level of competence in receptive skills (listening/reading) in Turkish as well as their ability to make use of the Turkish language in its written form. An additional objective is the expansion of the vocabulary.
The grammar covered in the course “140036 VO Turkish Grammar IV (2019S)” is practised by means of conversation exercises, listening exercises, written drills and texts (cf. the lessons 16-20 in the study guide „Türkische Grammatik I-IV“ which is available in the institute’s office).

Assessment and permitted materials

All course work is continuously assessed. Regular attendance of the course, the preparation of assignments (preparation of assignments outside class hours, working on assignments in class) and the passing of 2 short written tests are the preconditions for a degree. The mark results from the assessment of the work in class on the one hand and from the assessment of the written assignments (prepared outside class hours) on the other hand. Attendance is compulsory (three-time absence is allowed).
Dictionaries may be used during the course, but not during the 2 short written tests.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Preparation of the assignments named in the paragraph „Assessment and permitted materials“ and their positive assessment. Compliance with the compulsory attendance (three-time absence is allowed).
Assessment of the work in class (working on the assignments in class): 50% of the final mark.
Assessment of the written assignments (2 short written tests, homework): 50% of the final mark.

Examination topics

As all course work is continuously assessed, there will be no final exam about the entire syllabus at the end of the course. The subject matter of the 2 short written tests are in each case those grammatical themes practised in the teaching units before the test.

Reading list

Exercises, texts and further reading will be made accessible via Moodle.
