Aims, contents and method of the course

This course focuses on current topics, related to the vibrant, contemporary culture of Arabia, touching subjects such as pearl diving, military rituals, popular literature, folk belief and its aspects and many more.
The participants will be introduced to a variety of facets of modern Arabic popular culture.
Students undertaking this seminar will have the opportunity to work with Arabic original sources, such as texts, videos and the like.

Assessment and permitted materials

Attendance, participation as well as a seminar paper.
The seminar paper can be submitted in English or in German. Further languages upon request.
