Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
This course covers some of the key topics in Development Economics. The course will be taught at an introductory level. No prior knowledge of Economics is assumed.
Assessment and permitted materials
Students will be evaluated on the basis of their participation in class, presentations during the course, and written homeworks to be handed in regularly (weekly).
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Students will develop analytical skills to think independently about the problems of developing countries as well as the effects of economic policies.
Examination topics
Different theories will be discussed, as well as the related empirical evidence and policy debates.
Reading list
(Exact titles to be confirmed.) Readings will range from purely theoretical to historical, empirical, and policy documents (amongst others: W. Easterly und P. Krugman).
