Aims, contents and method of the course

The Practical Approaches will deal with business culture, organizational aspects and other factors influencing those acting in business in the Arab world. We will have a look at various sizes of business, from start-ups to family owned businesses to big state run enterprises and joint ventures. Starting with the situation in Egypt we will discuss examples from various Arab countries.
Aim of this lecture is to raise awareness for business aspects resulting from the specifics of the Arab business world.
Method: Lecture-part, presentations and discussions

Assessment and permitted materials

1) Active participation.
2) Preparation of a topic (maybe in group), presentation and discussion

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Interest in the business world and the people acting therein. Business knowledge is NOT a prerequisite but work experience (e.g. internships etc) will be helpful.
Knowledge of the Arab culture according curriculum.
Evaluation:
1) Active participation.
2) Preparation of a topic (maybe in group), presentation and discussion
