Aims, contents and method of the course

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Einblick in soziale Randgruppen, Kriminalität und Kriminalitätsbekämpfung als historisches Phänomen. Beobachtungsobjekt sind arabisch-muslimische Gesellschaften in vormoderner Zeit, also vom 7.-16. Jahrhundert und von Andalusien bis nach Mesopotamien. Wir lernen eine Vielzahl unterschiedlicher Quellengattungen kennen, festigen unser Arabisch und entwickeln ein Gespür für Möglichkeiten und Grenzen einer muslimischen Alltagsgeschichte.
Examination topics
Historisch-anthropologische Fragestellungen. Rezeption moderner Sekundärliteratur. Lektüre arabischer Quellen. Gute Arabischkenntnisse sind hilfreich, aber nicht erforderlich. Die unterschiedlichen Sprachvoraussetzungen der TeilneherInnen werden berücksichtigt.
Art der Leistungskontrolle: Aktive Teilnahme am Unterricht; gelegentlich Übernahme kleinerer Präsentationen und eigene Gestaltung des Unterrichts.
