Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Overview of the manufacture of pottery and of the main pottery assemblages in the Ancient Near East from the Neolithic through the Iron Age. Practical exercises on scientific documentation and processing of pottery finds.
Assessment and permitted materials
Active participation to the documentation work on pottery, summaries of the readings, oral presentation of one chosen ceramic assemblage, group work and bibliographic research for the identification of pottery assemblages.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Minimum requirements for a positive grade: active participation to the documentation work on pottery, summaries of readings, bibliographic research, one oral presentation and one written assignment (incl. potential correction) in agreement with the standards set by the course instructor and the in compliance to the guidelines to safeguard good scientific practice. Presence is required. A maximum of three absences without permission are tolerated.
Each part will be assessed on its own. The written assignment (incl. potential correction) will account for 40% of the grade, the oral presentation 20% and the active participation in class 40%.

Examination topics
Practical exercises for learning to deal with the most common find in Ancient Near Eastern find spots: pottery. Oral presentation of one pottery assemblage of choice in agreement with the standards set by the course instructor.
