Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The content of the course will be a presentation of post-development as a post-structuralist critique of development, then a critique of different approaches of post-development, and post-development in practice.

Assessment and permitted materials

Students will be asked to write position papers on the texts which are to be read for each class (1-2 pages), alone or in cooperation with others, students will have to make a presentation (15-20 minutes), they will be expected to write a seminar paper (15 pages) and they will be asked to evaluate a seminar paper of one of their colleagues as well (1 page).

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The goal of the course is that students understand what a post-development critique of development is, what are its weaknesses and why it could be useful for development in practice.

Examination topics

The method of this seminar will mostly consist of debating the compulsory literature with comments from the lecturer and of students' presentations and subsequent debate on the topic of the presentation.
