Aims, contents and method of the course

Introduction into Arabic compendia on governmental structures (encyclopaedias) from Mamluk times in Egypt, based on the work of al-Qalqashandi, died 821 /1418, as the most important representative of this genre. Reading, translation and interpretation of selecterd passages of his work.

Assessment and permitted materials

Continuous preparation and regular active cooperation (and contributions).

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Regular participation, absence at most three times. Regular active cooperation and contributions, term paper. Relation of term paper : contributions = 10 : 90.

Examination topics

Term paper: details will be discussed during the lessons.
