Aims, contents and method of the course

The aim of the course is to learn the basics of academic writing in Turkish. Students will write academic reviews, abstracts and short academic essays. Students will also compare newspaper articles or short literary texts with academic articles so that they learn the characteristics of academic texts. In addition, short academic texts are read during the course and students are expected to write short academic texts that they reflect their ideas about the texs. Students complete regular writing exercises and receive feedback on them.

Assessment and permitted materials

Students are expected to attend classes regularly (maximum 3 times absence is excused) and actively participate in in-class activities and discussions. Students are expected to write short academic essays. They will receive feedback on their assignments.

1st test: a short academic essay
2nd test: written exam

Attendance and in-class participation 30%
Text 30 %
Assignments 40 %

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Students should be able to read, comprehend and comment on texts in Turkish and to write short academic texts.

Examination topics

Regular Assignments.
For the written exam: Texts and articles read in class.
