Aims, contents and method of the course

*Note* This course is taught in German, but all of the instructors are comfortable with helping you in English as well.

Goal: knowledge of the basic grammatical structure of Babylonian (Akkadian)

Method: lecture and exercises. Regular attendance is strongly recommended!

Contents: overview of the history of Akkadian, mastery of nouns and pronouns plus basic verbal structures, basic cuneiform writing

Assessment and permitted materials

Written final exam, planned for in person as long as the situation allows. If not, there the exams will be held on moodle as a moodle-test.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Written exam: Translations from Babylonian to German and vice versa, theory, cuneiform script: a short phrase in cuneiform must be analysed, translated, converted.

Examination topics

Following the course book (Skriptum "Minimalgrammatik"):

Theory: up to and including p. 35 "Negationen und Fragen", alsong with the pertinent execises (I-V) and extra exercises given out in class.

Reading list

Das Skriptum "Minimalgrammatik des Akkadischen (Altbabylonisch) zur Verwendung in der 'Einführung in das Akkadische' und den 'Übungen zur Einführung'" wird Anfang März am Institut (im Sekretariat) erhältlich sein.

Umfangreiche Unterlagen werden über Moodle zur Verfügung gestellt, weitere Literatur wird in der LV vorgestellt.
