Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Subject of this seminar are novels of the 20th century dealing with "East - West / alaturka - alafranga ". Novles from befor 1928 will be read in Latin - not in Arabic - script.
Suggestions for readings will be gladly accepted!
In addition to the basics of scientific translation, methods of literary studies will be presented and articles will be discussed.
Finding a topic for the BA thesis is another important point.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The minimum requirement for a positive evaluation is constant active collaboration (missing three times is tolerated), preparing the translations and the writing of a seminar paper (Bachelor paper) of 20-25 pages according to the rules of good scholarly practice (among other things: no plagiarism! - see https://medienportal.univie.ac.at/uniview/uni-intern/detailansicht/artikel/abgeschrieben-und-erwischt-so-funktioniert-die-plagiatspruefung/ - acceptable linguistic and stylistic level! correct citing!).
active collaboration and translation will make up 40% of the evaluation, the seminar paper 60% thereof.
