Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The aim of this class is to reach an understanding of the multifaceted phenomenon of migration of people from the Arab world as transnational. The focus will be the migration in and around the Indian Ocean. The migration of texts will be analyzed, too.
The course will be held in presence. If necessary, it will be entirely moved to the online sphere.

Assessment and permitted materials

Participation (close reading, translations and discussion in class.), short papers during the semester, short presentation, final paper

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Regular attendance (3 times missing is permitted), active participation in the discussion, working on exercises and the final paper in time and according to the rules of academic working. Further details will be announced in the first class.

With these steps, a reflecting understanding of the topics to be discussed shall be demonstrated.
Proficient skills in German, English and Arabic are expected.

20% active participation (attendance, discussion)
20% homework, translation, presentation
60% final paper
