Aims, contents and method of the course

orthography and phonology of Somali
basic knowledge of morphology and Syntax
basic vocabulary

Content:
Somali is the official language of Somalia and is spoken by more than 12 million people in the Horn of Africa. It belongs to the Cushitic branch of the Afro-Asian language family. This course is conceived as a two-semester language course and is intended to enable students to have simple conversations in word and writing.

Method:
Lecture by the course instructor, supported by numerous practice sessions and audiovisual language material.
ATTENTION: The method may be switched to hybrid teaching or pure online teaching (via Zoom Meetings) if necessary (due to limitations of presence because of Covid-19).

Assessment and permitted materials

written presence examination at the end of the semester
ATTENTION: If this is not possible due to restrictions because of Covid-19, it will be changed to a 'take home exam'.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

written test comprising 5 questions, in total, 30 points can be reached
- 15,25 Punkte: Nicht Genügend
15,5 – 19 Punkte: Genügend
19,25 – 22,75: Befriedigend
23 – 26,5: Gut
26,75 – 30 Sehr Gut
