Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

In this seminar, we engage with critical research on queer culture and queer activism in the African context; critical research on homophobia and transphobia in the African context; and decolonial approaches to queer and feminist theory (coloniality of gender, critique of Western dominance in global LGBTIQ+ discourse; indigenous concepts of same-sex desire and non-binary identity).
In addition to research in cultural, social, and historical studies, narratives of queer experience and conceptualization of queer identity in African literature and film are used as a major source of knowledge.
