Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Objectives: To learn intermediate morphology, syntax and lexis of modern Turkish. Theoretical grammar and active use of Turkish are the focus of the course. In this sense, new grammar topics are worked out and vocabulary is learned.
Method: In this VU interaction is in the foreground. Active participation of the students is expected and graded. Likewise, there are homework assignments, reading and listening pieces that are to be worked on by the students on a regular basis. In addition, self-preparation for class using the given materials is required so that the class can be mutually successful. The language of instruction is mainly German, but during the semester Turkish will gradually gain importance as the language of instruction and more and more Turkish will be spoken.
Goal at the end of the semester: European reference framework, level B1.

Assessment and permitted materials

- Attendance (max. 3 absences)
- Active participation in class
- Weekly written submission of homework (solutions will be posted on Moodle afterwards) (12 submissions of 2 points each - 24 points in total)
- 2 written submissions: These are texts to be written on a lesson topic. The exact deadline will be announced in time in class and via Moodle. Texts submitted after the deadline will NOT be accepted. Texts must contain specific expressions and grammatical constructions, which will also be announced in time. (10 points each - 20 total)
- 2 written and oral quizzes (12 points each - 16 total).
- 1 final exam covering the entire semester material (40 points).
No aids of any kind are allowed on the exam. Copying from or collaborating with colleagues is not allowed.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Attendance and active participation in class are required. Participation in the final discussion is REQUIRED!

For a positive grade, a total of at least 60% (all performances added together) must be achieved.
100 - 90 = Very good
80 - 89 = Good
70 - 79 = Satisfactory
56 - 69 = Sufficient
<55 Not sufficient
Collaboration (or its absence) in class may improve or decrease the grade by one degree.
For all assignments, it is NOT allowed to copy or hand in the same homework assignment as peers. This will be considered cheating.
