Aims, contents and method of the course

This course aims to develop the participants' active Turkish language skills as well as their listening and comprehension skills. With this in mind, students will engage with various texts, podcasts, and videos or films that will be discussed in class. Participants prepare presentations on topics such as literature, cinema, history, science, politics, music, environment, and gender and actively participate in discussions. In addition, participants are given weekly written assignments.

Assessment and permitted materials

- Attendance (max. three absences).
- Active participation in class: Students must prepare the designated class materials (texts, videos/films, podcasts) for the respective course units. Preparation and active participation in class will be considered in the overall grade.
- Weekly written submission of homework assignments: Feedback will be provided on each written homework assignment and correction is expected. These are texts to be written on a lesson topic. The exact deadline will be announced in time in class and via Moodle. Texts submitted after the deadline will NOT be accepted. (9 submissions of 4 each - 36 points total).
- 1 oral quiz (24 points).
- 1 final presentation (with written submission) on all semester material (40 points).

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Attendance and active participation in class are required. Participation in the final discussion is REQUIRED!

For a positive grade, a total of at least 60% (all performances added together) must be achieved.
100 - 90 = Very good
80 - 89 = Good
70 - 79 = Satisfactory
56 - 69 = Sufficient
<55 Not sufficient

Collaboration (or absence thereof) in class may raise or lower the grade by one grade.

For all assignments, it is NOT allowed to copy or hand in the same homework assignment as peers. This will be considered cheating.

Examination topics

Joint editing of various texts of different levels of difficulty, films, videos, podcasts, essay, newspaper, blog, magazine reading, presentation on current issues and discussion about it.
