Aims, contents and method of the course

Content: the following analytic structures will be analysed: future, genitive and comparative and superlatives in Arabic dialects.

Learning objective: being able to recognise, analyse, and describe analytical constructions of Arabic dialects and reading the related scientific literature.

Method: reading scientific literature related to Arabic dialectology and linguistics, active participation during classes through discussions and oral presentations and homeworks.
The classes will give the tools to analyse analytical structures in different varieties of Arabic.

Assessment and permitted materials

- Active participation in class and preparation to the weekly topics and homeworks
- Reading scientific articles and active participation to the discussion
- Preparation of a presentation on a chosen topic (previously to be approved by the lecturer)
- Article (10-15 pages. Deadline: 29th January 2025) written according to the scientific rules.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Active participation in class and weekly homeworks will be taken into account (25%)
Oral presentation on a chosen topic (25%)
Short scientific paper on a selected topic (one of the analytical constructions) (50%)

More than 3 absences are not allowed

100 – 91 = very good ; 79 – 90 = good; 65 - 78 = passing; 51 - 64 = sufficient; < 50 = not sufficient

Examination topics

There is no final exam.
