Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Introduction into Classical Arabic Adab literature accompagnied by presentation of prominent texts belonging to this category. Reading (as far as presence is possible, due to Covid 19 situation), translation (in case of digital instructions, exclusively that) and interpretation of relevant texts of different origin and from different times.
Due to Covid 19 situation, lessons will be held in digital frame. All students will be contacted separately.

Assessment and permitted materials

Regular active cooperation and contributions.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Regular participation, absence at most three times. Regular active cooperation and contributions, concluding test. In case of digital instructions, transfer of the translation exercices just in time. Relation of tst : contributions: 10 : 90.

Examination topics

Concluding test: reading (as far as possible), translation (in case of digital instructions, exclusively that) and interpretation of specific Classical Arabic passages out of Adab works. All auxiliary resources permitted, since preparation will be done externally.

Will be given during the lecture.
Texts: Ibn Qutayba: Uyun al-akhbar; Ibn Abi Awn: al-Ajwiba al-muskita; al-Jahiz: Kitab al-bukhala'; eventually ibn Abd Rabbih: al-Iqd al-farid.
