Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
This course is designed for complete beginners of Modern Standard Arabic and its aim is to teach the fundamentals, such as the main grammar rules or the essentials of Arabic writing. Students will learn how to apply the language in everyday situations, using the four skills reading, writing, speaking, and listening. The focus is on basic, simple structures and reading comprehension as well as communicative skills appropriate to the level (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, level A1/1).Grammar topics: Declination, adjectives, dual and plural of nouns, the root system, pronouns (personal pronouns and demonstrative pronouns), nominal clauses, verb conjugation in the present tense, genitive conjunction, ordinal numbers, modal verbs (can and must)Vocabulary and useful phrases: Arab countries, professions, fields of study, hotel, appointment, days of the week, months, family, housingMaterials: The textbook (see below) is essential for this lecture. Additional materials are made available on the Moodle platform.Method: There is (non-mandatory) homework and students are expected to prepare for the class and learn along using the materials so that the lecture can be held interactively.
Assessment and permitted materials
The module exam at the end of the semester determines the overall grade.
Written exam on site, working time 90 minutes.

No aids are permitted during the exam. Copying from or collaborating with colleagues is not permitted.Structure of the exam:
30 points: Theoretical grammar questions (explaining grammatical structures)
40 points: Applied grammar questions (exercises)
30 points: Free writing (writing a text according to the vocabulary and expressions given in lessons 0 - 4)

Examination topics
Subject of the exam are the first four chapters in the textbook (including new words and phrases and the grammar discussed in these chapters) as well as the Arabic alphabet and basic orthographic rules.
