Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This course aims to help students develop their listening and oral skills as beginners in Syro-Lebanese Arabic. It is designed to build on the grammatical knowledge that the students will be acquiring in parallel. Through this course, the students will also be introduced to important elements of the Syro-Lebanese culture and society.

Assessment and permitted materials

The basic approach of this course will be communicative. This means that students are expected and required to actively participate in the class activities as well as to assume a large portion of the responsibility for their own progress.

1) Attendance is essential in this course. In case of absence, students will be required to review the contents of the class and to present the necessary assignments in the next session. The maximum number of absences is 3. Students who miss more than 3 classes will not be evaluated.

2) Punctuality is expected and required from students. Delays superior to 10 minutes will be considered 1/2 absence.

3) Arabic in the class (as much as possible). Students are expected to commit to speaking Arabic in the class and through activities. English will be used for clarifications and explanations.

4) Daily assignments. Students should expect homework assignments for each class.
