Aims, contents and method of the course

This course introduces the grammar of the Hittite language. The course is conducted in lecture format with assignments of grammatical exercises based on short text passages. The students will also be introduced to the Hittite cuneiform syllabary and the main research tools of Hittitology.
Introduction to Hittite: survey of the sources; grammar; reading of texts (short texts and extracts of longer compositions).

Assessment and permitted materials

Active participation in the reading of the texts is required, as is passing a grammar test. Attendence is mandatory; missing three classes is admissable.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The grading system is as follows:
5 (0-52): not enough
4 (53-65): enough
3 (66-77): satisfactory
2 (78-90): good
1 (91-100): very good
