Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Aim: The Introduction to Modern Tibetan I and accompanying exercise in the winter semester 24, as well as the advanced language course Introduction to Modern Tibetan II in the summer semester 2025. After completing these three courses, students should be able to communicate effectively and be familiar with modern Tibetan texts independently.Content: The course begins with an introduction to the Tibetan script as it is used in contemporary settings. The basics of phonology, morphology, and syntax are then covered with a focus on their modern usage. Emphasis will be placed on conversational skills, modern vocabulary, and current linguistic trends. An overview of the individual courses will be handed out in the first lesson and can also be found on the e-learning platform MoodleMethod: The respective topics are presented, learned, and consolidated based on specially designed teaching materials (grammar, exercises, dialogues, and word lists). These teaching materials are made available successively during the lessons via Moodle. The handbook Manual of Standard Tibetan: Language and Civilization by Nicola Tournadre and Sangda Dorje(Snow Lion Publications, 2005).Form of delivery: The course is planned on-site.
