Aims, contents and method of the course
Es gibt keine historisch gesicherten Quellen zur Entstehung des Buddhismus. Für seine Anfänge sind wir auf die innerbuddhistischen Narrative angewiesen. Sie beschreiben den Wandel von einer religiös fundierten Aussteigergemeinschaft zu einer sozial, ökonomisch und spirituell außerordentlich erfolgreichen Bewegung, die viele Jahrhundert lang in der Mitte der indischen Gesellschaft angesiedelt war, entscheidende Beiträge zu Kunst, Literatur und Philosophie geleistet hat und als einzige altindische Religion über fast ganz Asien verbreitet worden ist. Die Vorlesung wird insbesondere die Frühgeschichte in den Blick nehmen und versuchen, die Entwicklungsprozesse zu rekonstruieren, die zu dem oftmals idealisierten Bild des indischen Buddhismus geführt haben, das uns aus den schriftlichen Quellen entgegentritt.Lernziel: eine Vorstellung von der Entstehung des indischen Buddhismus, die dem heutigen Erkenntnisstand entspricht.Vermittlungsform: Vortrag mit Powerpoint; aktive Mitarbeit und Diskussion in der VO ist unbedingt erwünscht.

Schriftliche Prüfung: 5 von 7 Themen/Fragen sind ausführlich in ganzen Sätzen zu erörtern, Zeitrahmen 2 Stunden.
