Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The course aims to offer an overview of the history of Śaivism in Kashmir. After having provided a general background on the religious situation in the region, the course will concentrate on the main developments of Śaivism. More specifically, it will contextualize the history of this religious tradition within the broader phenomenon of Tantra, by taking into account both philosophical conceptions and worship practices. A particular emphasis will be put on the works produced by non-dualistic traditions such as the Spanda, the Trika and the Pratyabhijñā.
