Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Queer South Asians can refer to the individuals and communities of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) people who trace their ancestry to South Asia. LGBTQ+ has covered various domains of cultural productions in social life such as journalism, film, literature, art, etc. Not only the scholars and journalists, but queer communities and individuals themselves have engaged in vibrant forms of cultural production such as writing, activism, filmmaking, performance art, and creative interventions in everyday life.
This course aims to outline the past and present situation of LGBTQ+ in South Asia and the responses to it through the cultural productions about them and by them, which can help us understand more about queer community and South Asian public cultures and discourses.
