Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The major objective of this course is an introduction to Hindi in politics. The class meetings are divided into formal lecturing, close reading, listening, presentation and discussion. The texts, audio and video recordings of political speeches of past and contemporary Indian leaders will be used in the class for close reading, translation and analysis.
The class meetings are divided into close reading, discussion and formal lecturing. It is absolutely necessary that all students engage with the weekly preparation in order to participate in the class discussions. Regular participation and a sound knowledge of Hindi are strictly demanded for the course. Final examination asks students to respond to questions pertaining to the class readings.

Assessment and permitted materials

The final grade will be calculated as follows: a) Cass attendance, text preparation for the class, translation, and participation in reading and discussion 30%,
b) Home works, written exercise, attendance 30%
c) An essay in Hindi (3,000 words) at the end of the semester 40%.
