Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

How suffering arises - this is a major topic not only for Buddhism, but also for medicine. After an introduction explaining the connections with early Buddhist teachings, this reading course (mainly Sanskrit texts will be considered) will focus on the concepts of the causation of suffering and disease in the fundamental works of Ayurveda. As we will see, dharma also plays a significant role in this. In this regard, we will also touch upon a highly relevant topic, as one of the texts elaborates in detail how epidemics and similar catastrophes can occur due to collective disregard for dharma.

It is recommended to take this course together with the lecture "Cosmic order, moral duty, religious practice" by Marco Ferrante, but also onlookers who are only interested in the focus of this reading are welcome.
