Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Various dance styles have developed on the Indian subcontinent over the centuries. In the proseminar we will examine them in the context of history and what kind of problems contemporary dancers have to face. The performance practice will be explained by videos and literature to get an insight into the dance styles themselves as well as into the special circumstances that have shaped their development to this day. The term Devadāsī, and the historical transformation of the image of the dancer in Indian society will be part of the Proseminar.
