Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

In the face of silence and speechlessness about the suffering caused by the current war among the people of Sudan, this course aims to provide a space for students to engage with the voices, experiences and stories of contemporary writers from Sudan and the diaspora. How do novels by Sudanese authors make sense of the historical, cultural and political experiences that shape Sudanese identity today? What do identity and belonging mean in their works? How do their works contribute to an understanding of past and present social conflicts? The focus will be on literary works in English and/or German or in translation.
