Aims, contents and method of the course

In this course general systematic-theological concepts are introduced. Above all, the theme of the unity of God and the problem of theodicy is a central theme.
A special focus is placed on the following questions: Why is there a creation? The possibility of revelation? The relationship between God and human. How Islamic theology asks about unity (Arab. Tawhid). What is the relationship between reason and faith? etc.

Objectives:
- You will be able to reproduce the essential kalam discourse.
- You will be able to take a position on the content of discursive theology itself.
- You will be able to recognize different approaches to questions of faith and to classify them according to the schools of faith.

Method:
Lecture, presentation, discussion and interpretation.
The course will take place in presence. You will be informed in case of a possible change. In case of a change to digital teaching, a working camera and microphone is necessary for participation.

Assessment and permitted materials

- 15% Participation and oral presentation (if the course is conducted digitally, working utensils such as camera and microphone are required).
- 25% oral presentation including handout (500 words). The handout must be uploaded to Moodle at least one week before the start of the presentation.
- 55% seminar paper of approx. 3000-3500 words including cover sheet and outline.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

- Assessment must be positive in all three categories to successfully complete the course.
- This course uses Turnitin. By registering for the course, you agree to plagiarism check the submitted content.
- Attendance at the first digital session on Tuesday, 09/01/2024 is mandatory.
- Deadline for submission is 02/28/2024.

Grading will be composed as follows:
Attendance and oral participation: 15 points
Presentation including handout: 30 points
Paper: 55 points

AA: 100-90 points
BB: 89-81 points
CC: 80-71 points
DD: 70--56 points
FF: 55-0 points
