Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This seminar offers you a detailed examination of various areas of Islamic religious education, starting with the history of Islamic education and ending with the current fields of discussion.
The seminar will deal in great detail with the philosophical foundations of Islamic education or introduce the first philosophical debates on Islamic education such as al-Kindi, al-Ǧāḥiẓ, al-Fārābī, al-Ġazzāli.
After this historical examination, the seminar is dedicated to the current challenges of Islamic religious education in the German-speaking world. In doing so, students will be familiarised with the religious education concepts of various centres in Europe.
Goals
- Competences for a differentiated examination of the tasks and goals of Islamic education,
- Deepening of competence in religious education with regard to one's own professional practice
- Ability to analyse and critically reflect on Islamic tradition in the present and its contemporary significance for Muslims in Europe.
