Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

With the help of diverse tools, e.g. Korean texts, dialogues, role play, listening exercises etc., students will have the opportunity to further advance their Korean language skills e.g. reading, comprehension, speaking and writing. In particular, students will be able to deepen their knowledge by expanding their vocabulary and exercising practical dialogues beyond the basics from the first semester.

Assessment and permitted materials

In case the student chooses to drop the course before the end of the first session and deregisters from the course, a grading will not be performed. Absence from the first class (session) automatically leads to deregistration.
Active participation during the class sessions by participating in the exercised dialogues and discussion regarding the assigned homework will be part of the grading basis.
Attendance, assignments, homework, active participation during class session, midterm exam (written), final exam (written + oral)

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Attendance (max. 3 missed sessions), the submission of at least 90% of the assigned homework as well as the passing of the examinations are required in order to be considered for completion of this course.
An exam is considered as passed when at least 60% of the max. achievable points is obtained.
Once all above prerequisites are met the final grade will derive from the result of the passed exams with following weightings:

1. Active participation (30%, see above)
2. midterm exam (30%, anticipated exam date: 6.May, dictation and writing an essay)
3. final exam (40% written + oral, anticipated exam date: 28. June)
More details will be announced via Moodle.
Note: The percentage weighting in Moodle is non-relevant and purely technical.
Further: Each examination (midterm or final exam) can only be taken once per semester. This includes even the case where a test or exam is not passed (with at least 60% of the max. achievable points.)

A catch-up-examination is granted for medical or technical reasons. In the earlier case the submission of a medical certificate is required. For the later, the responsibility to report any technical issues holding back a student to take the online examination regularly lies with the student. The technical issue is to be reported to the lecturer immediately once discovered.
