Workload
To fulfill the assignments as laid out above, you will have to read and think a lot. You need to know the topic of your term paper early, and work continuously to take the single steps. You will have to submit a total of six written assignments. These include a report on the first 14 chapters of the book by Kate Turabian on academic writing; written proposals for topic/title and research question; a written table with your arguments on the relevance of your research question(s); a written structure of the literature review; the literature review; and the analytical framework. Details on each of these assignments will be provided via Moodle, and through recorded lectures available on YouTube. You will receive detailed individual feedback on the core assignments above, and we will have real-time sessions to discuss the tasks.

The sole purpose of this course is to help you prepare the term paper, which is a key component of the related Seminar on Economic Systems in East Asia. We will approach this goal through six consecutive steps. First, you will read and discuss part of a book on academic writing. Then, following our EcoS approach, we will discuss these five key components of any research: topic/title and research question; relevance of research question; structure of the literature review; the literature review; and the analytical framework. At the end of this course, you will have the theoretical part of your term paper ready and can use the remaining time until the due date to complete your term papers for the seminar. Each of the steps involves a written assignment.
IMPORTANT: Since this course is about preparing your term papers, you need to be registered for this Exercise Course if you want to be admitted to the Seminar on Economic Systems in East Asia.
