Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This course covers proper pronunciation, handwriting and elementary spoken and written communication in various everyday situations. It is meant to be taken in tandem with Japanische Grammatik I [Japanese Grammar I].

PREREQUISITES:
* Introduction to the Japanese Language
* advance registration
* textbook (see below)

At the end of this course students should be able to
* understand spoken Standard Japanese as used in certain everyday situations;
* (re)act and communicate appropriately in these same situations;
* read certain domain-specific Japanese, e. g. basic signage.

Assessment and permitted materials

The course total is made up of active participation (20 %), homework (20 %), mid-term (25 %) and final (35 %) . Attention: Final test will be held on the 1st of February.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

* Attendance is mandatory. No-shows for the first unit will have their registration revoked immediately and missing more than 2 of the 10 remaining units results in a failing grade. Tardiness may be counted as absence at the discretion of the lecturer.

* You should budget about 10 hours per week of additional study time for lesson preparation.

* There is a strict zero tolerance policy on cheating and plagiarism.

* More than 60 percentage points are required to pass the course (>70→3/C, >80→2/B, >90→1/A).
