Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Learning outcomes:
The emphasis is on "social business Chinese", i.e. the skill to use Modern Chinese in practical and mainly oral business contexts. This includes business small talk as well as the technical vocabulary for international business.
We will work on enlarging both the receptive and productive vocabulary, with an emphasis on acquiring the skill of using different linguistic registers appropriately (e.g. informal chat vs. formal speech).
Secondly, we will read typical business texts and analyze typical features of formal written Chinese (e.g. Thank-you letter). You will be able to identify and understand selected formal written Chinese idiom (receptive skill), and to use some of these phrases in an appropriate way (productive skill).
