Aims, contents and method of the course

Aims, contents and method of the course

The speech practice 1a is a language course for Chinese students of the first semester and is coordinated with the courses "Modern Chinese 1a" and "Language Lab 1a" held. The main focus is on oral communication.
The course content of this semester is structured as follows:
1- Correct pronunciation training in dialogues. The peculiarity of Chinese phonetics is that every syllable is a word. This is a particular difficulty for learners at an early stage. Therefore, this semester will focus on learning the correct sounds and mastering correct pronunciation according to the Hanyu Pinyin transliteration (this is also the case in Modern Chinese 1a and Language Lab 1a treated). On the basis of this, in the context of dialogue-oriented communication, the aim is to formulate clear, standard-compliant statements, to convey information in such a way that the listener / conversation partner understands the meaning and intention of the speaker.
2- Gain the ability to conduct simple dialogues through the correct use of words and word combinations. Specifically: Mutual introduction, conversations of everyday life, conveying simple information.
3- The communicative language competence is composed of hearing (passive communicative competence) and speaking (active communicative competence), therefore the exercises in the speech practice also include listening comprehension exercises. In particular, for learners in the initial stage, the training of the hearing allows the ability to discriminate (of sounds), as well as the ability to imitate and produce freely.
4- Basically speaking speed is relatively fast in spoken language, but early learners are discouraged. This means that learners should speak slowly, word by word, in the initial stages, in order to learn the correct pronunciation of each character. This serves as the basis for the second semester, in which the speed of speech is increased.
