Aims, contents and method of the course

1) Education in Beijing and influential historical personalities in this respect
2) the three characters ta1 for she, he, it: their role in Beijing regional culture (language, humor, Tianqiao-district etc.)

Assessment and permitted materials

term paper 60%, presentation 40%

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Learning about Beijing regional culture, the participants will get to know a culture which has its own special features, which is an important part of Chinese culture, and which is last but not least a part of world culture. Moreover, the participants will benefit from their insights into the regional culture of Beijing insofar as they include it into their future research.

Examination topics

Based on the introduction into Bejiing regional culture, the participants choose a topic for their term paper focussing either on a biography or the analysis of a particular phenomenon of the culture.
