Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Learning outcomes:
Consolidation and enlargement of the Modern Chinese language competence (productive and receptive, written and oral) acquired in the first to third semesters.
This comprises:

2. Reading out and translation into German (or English) of texts written in simplified and traditional characters.
3. Correct handwriting of simplified OR traditional characters.
4. Knowledge of Chinese radicals (traditional list of Kangxi-Radicals).
5. Productive knowledge of Hanyu Pinyin, the official romanization system.
6. Theoretical knowledge of relevant structures and the ability to produce the relevant terminology in Chinese.
Contents:

Relevant chapters: Chapters 13 to 22. The reading text at the end of each chapter has to be translated as homework (Moodle-activity “WIKI”). A preliminary list of planned chapters will be provided on Moodle.
- Receptive knowledge of traditional characters.
- Traditional Radicals.
- Additional vocabulary: specialized terminology concerning grammar.
Method:
Detailed analysis of the grammar and vocabulary used in the texts. Special emphasis is on contrastive language analysis (e.g. explanations and examples of the use of vocabulary and phrases).
