Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The aim of this introduction is to deepen the participants' understanding of the political development of the People's Republic of China. The changing basic principles of governance, the organizational structure of the party state and the space for social action are discussed.

Current articles on the above-mentioned questions are made available to you via the e-learning platform Moodle. In addition to the slides and video recordings for the lecture, which can also be obtained via the e-learning platform, your reading is the most important preparation for the module exam. Dates for tutorials for the lecture are also announced on the e-learning platform.

Assessment and permitted materials

The exam will consist of two parts: answering a total of 15 questions and writing an essay. The exam questions will be asked partly as a single choice, partly openly. For the essay, you will be given two topics, from which you will choose one to answer.

The first exam will take place on 2023-01-30.

This lecture is part of the STEOP.

IMPORTANT: The rules of good scientific practice apply. According to the valid regulations of the University of Vienna, the submitted examination can be subjected to a plagiarism check for control purposes (turnitin). Within the assessment period of four weeks, oral inquiries can also be made regarding the subject matter of the examination (plausibility check). According to the Austrian University Act, "[e]plagiarism [...] exists in any case if text passages, theories, hypotheses, findings or data are taken over and passed off as one's own without acknowledging the source or the author" (§ 51 Abs 2 Z 31 UG 2002, see also link of the Studienpräses to the definition of plagiarism:
https://studienpraeses.univie.ac.at/infos-zum-studienrecht/wissenschaftliche-arbeiten/plagiat/).
It is therefore forbidden, when using additional aids (e.g. additional texts), to include foreign content unchanged (copy-paste) in one's own examination without marking the copied passage and indicating the source.

Reading list
