Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The Hallyu (Korean cultural wave) is Korea's most influential brand names that promote the nation's image referring to the popularity of Korean culture in East-Asian countries in the late 1990s. It was playing the enormous role when the exported Korean TV dramas and remakes of pop music have become most popular with the Korea modern culture especially in Taiwan, China, Hong Kong, Japan, and Vietnam. Trend following have been in recognizing a number of Korea's singers and actors made their debut in neighboring countries and started gaining popularity. The Korean wave is now more increasing demand for Korean products, and more people are interesting in Korean culture and the language. But the interesting point here is whether Hallyu is the very culturally alike with the surrounding countries centering on Confucianism. As such result, the class discussions will analyze and critique Hallyu as a possibility to cultural imperialism in the viewpoint of national cultural identity.
