Aims, contents and method of the course

The discussion on cross-Taiwan-Straits relations on the Chinese mainland, Taiwan and in the West is used as a case study to approach the concept of discourse and its application in political context.

Assessment and permitted materials

written paper (minimum 10 pp.);
presentation (powerpoint).

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Basics of discourse theory and discourse analysis;
Deeper understanding of political relations between Beijing and Taipei and their historical, economic and cultural background;
Working with primary and secondary sources and being aware of the linkage between them.
